Cultural Dresses of Balochistan

Balochistan is the largest province of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan in area which is also the richest province in terms of natural resources. But unfortunately, the people of Balochistan are the poorest and the most backward as compare to other parts of the country. There are many reasons for their retardation like the lack of education, slowness in development, ignorance by the authorities, typical tribal system and the everlasting abnormal situation.

But all this has never stopped the Baloch people to continue their lives with their unique traditions and customs. Although the modernization has put some effects upon the centuries old culture of the Baloch people, however, the colors of their culture is much reflected from their day to day affairs even, today. This might not be wrong to say that the most prestigious thing near to Balochs is their culture. Obviously, like many other ancient cultures of the world, where the traditional dresses have much significance, the enlightening feature of the Baloch culture is also their cultural dress. The cultural dresses of Balochistan are called as “phashik” in the Balochi language.

The Balochi males who normally belong to the major ethnic communities, Baloch, Pashtoon and Brahvi, all of them wear similar clothes with little divergence. Turban is considered as an integral part of the male dress and they use loose trousers ( Shalwar ) with knee long shirts in their dress. The Baloch woman wears a dress embellished with heavy sleeves and borders. Another prominent part of the woman’s dress is the trio shaped pocket with lots of embroidery. The cultural dresses of Balochistan are prepared with glass and several colored threads. This is not really easy to make such phenomenal dress as it requires lots of hard work and designing.

Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch: The emerging female singer

Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch is an emerging female singer from Pakistan who has rapidly placed herself as one of the popular singers in the country. Commonly, Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch is referred as QB and she entered in the Pakistan Music Industry after her completion of the Bachelors degree in IT essentials Multimedia. Although, Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch is an American citizen but she was brought up in Pakistan.

Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch started her musical career with her appearance in a famous program known as COKE STUDIO. Firstly, she was performing with a well-known musical band “JAL” but soon she grabbed the attention of the listeners with her exquisite vocal talent. Naturally, Qurat-ul-Ain Balouch got the inspiration from the musical legend “Reshma” which is evident from her debut video “Akhian Nu Ren De”. This video, which has got immense popularity right after the release, is a cover of the popular song by the legendary Reshma.

Haifa Wehbe, The Heartbeat of Lebanon

Haifa Wehbe is a Lebanese Showbiz star who is the heart beat of the majority of Arab youth for her glamorous style in singing and alluring beauty. She is a versatile performer who started her career as a model and later became an actress then an extremely popular singer. Haifa Wehbe was born in Mahrouna, a small town in Southern Lebanon. Her beauty won here the title of Miss South Lebanon at the age of sixteen.

Haifa Wehbe also won an ancillary title at the Miss Lebanon competition, but she was disqualified  later when her secret wedding was disclosed.   Her real success started  when she performed in a music video clip for the singer George Wassouf. After this an unlimited modeling appearances were made by her and till 1998, Haifa had become the leading fashion model of the Arab world.

The success of Haifa Wehbe in musical arena began with her first album release in 2002, titled Houwa El-Zaman, which became a super hit. Later in 2005 her second album Baddi Eesh release made her immensely popular  specially due to the lead number “Ya Hayat Albi.” It was released after the assassination of  Rafik Hariri, and the song was sung in context of freedom of expression and basic human rights. Haifa Wehbe released a children’s album titled Baby Haifa in March 2010 under Rotana Records.

In July 2005, Haifa Wehbe became popular due to her appearance in  the live pan-Arab reality series Al-Wadi, based on the French reality show La Ferme Célébrités. Haifa Wehbe keeps her international recognition as she was the first Arab artist to appear on the Italian television channel Rai Uno at Piazza Navona in Rome. Besides that Haifa Wehbe has also performed number of times with artists from outside the Arab world.

The showbiz portfolio of Haifa Wehbe consists of her acting career as she was casted  in the Pepsi-produced film Sea of Stars 2008, along with famous stars like Carole Samaha, Ahmad el Sherif, Wael Kfoury, Brigitte Yaghi, and Ruwaida al-Mahrooqi. After this  In 2009 Haifa Wehbe was also starred in Dokkan Shehata, an Egyptian drama film which gained massive success in the Middle Eastern region and provided Haifa huge publicity.

Haifa Wehbe was ranked 49th in the 2006 Edition of the Top 99 Most Desirable Women by the website AskMen.com. She was on People Magazine‘s 50 most beautiful people list.
