Women of the Lovely Planet have played the integral part in every sphere of the life of the humans around the globe. Specially in the modern era, they’ve come out strongly from the oppression and discrimination. They have proved themselves as the influential segment of their respective societies through their wisdom, dignity and grace. Today, the women are very actively performing many jobs that were beyond imagination in the past. Jollof rice of West Africa is a very popular and widely eaten dish in West African continent. The orange colored rice once cooked are normally eaten with meat and fish and as it has been described that it is the favorite of most of the West Africans so it has now diverse versions. Who originated Jollof rice ? It is a big questions as most of the African countries claim themselves to be the founders of Jollof rice. But it is related to the vast majority of the Wolof ethnic group who are living in many West African countries like Nigeria , Gambia , Senegal and Ghana etc. Jollof rice is also served to the guests in most of the festive occasions of West Africa.

The cooking method of tantalizing Jollof rice is not so complicated. The main ingredients of Jollof dish includes basmati rice, tomatoes, tomato paste, onion, ginger, nutmeg ,salt, spices and red chili pepper. Some people love Jollof with vegetables, meats and fish. Mainly the sauce or gravy of chopped onions and tomatoes is fried in coconut oil which ultimately makes the Jollof charming red. To make it more spicy many additional ingredients can be added in the recipe and it can be served with plantain and salad.

Whether you consider the Jollof rice of West Africa, a highly esteemed dish or as a regular meal , it is the cherished choice of the West Africans. In its most popular Gambian version it is known as benachin and it is also spelled jolof or djolof rice.
