The Snowy Owl is a bird of Arctic tundra or open grasslands and fields. They are hardly seen in the forested areas. They love to dwell along lakeshores, marine coastlines, marshes, and even roost on buildings in cities and towns. In the Arctic, they normally roost on pingaluks (rises in the tundra) and breed from low valley floors up to mountain slopes and plateaus over 1,000 meters (3,000 feet) in elevation. The population of the snowy owl is widespread almost in the whole arctic regions and North America. In Canada, the snowy owl is the official bird of Quebec.

The Snowy Owl is a strictly nomadic bird and it is considered a species of least concern. The average length of the snowy owl is about 20–28 inches, with a 49–59 inches wingspan. Similarly the snowy owl can weigh anywhere from 1.6 to 3 kilograms so in this way it is one of the largest and heaviest species of owl. Their vocalization includes krek-krek; the female also has a softer mewling pyee-pyee or prek-prek. But they can also chirp in various ways.

Because of their marvelous way of hunting, the snowy owl was a symbol of chivalry.

The red-headed woodpecker is an omnivorous bird which loves to eat insects, seeds, fruits, berries, nuts, and occasionally even the eggs of other birds. Both male and female red-headed woodpeckers measure from 19 to 25 cm in length, with a wingspan of 42.5 cm They can weigh from 56 to 97 g (2.0 to 3.4 oz). Scientifically the Red-headed Woodpecker is called as Melanerpes erythrocephalus and its conservation status is defined as near threatened.

Normally, the red-headed woodpecker builds its nest in the dead trees but due to the rapid erasing of such trees, their habitat is greatly under threat of elimination. The other reasons of the habitat destruction of the red-headed woodpecker of North America are the agro based farming and the loss of small orchards.

Boa Constrictor: Monster of the forest

Boa Constrictor is a large non-poisonous snake which is endemic to the North and South America. Boa Constrictor, monster of the forest can also be compared with large species of Python and Anaconda due to their massive size. They can obtain the average length of 6-8 feet, but in the most suitable conditions of their growth, the Boa Constrictors are also observed of 3-4 meters. The female Boa Constrictor is much larger, especially in the captivity. However, the size and weight of Boa Constrictor vary on the location and availability of their prey.

Boa Constrictors are found in the exquisite color patterns depending upon their habitats. However, they are mostly seen in brown, creamy, gray patterned with brown or red saddles. Boa Constrictors are tough climate resistant as they also live in the semi desert environment, although most of them prefer to live in the humid and tropical rainforests. Boa Constrictor becomes adult at the age of 3 years and the average life span of Boa Constrictor is from 25-30 years.

Boa Constrictor is a deadly predator and wraps its body around the victim and literally constricts it till the prey dies. Their prey includes small mammals, bats, birds, mongoose and amphibians. The size of the prey item will increase as they get older and larger. Boa constrictor, monster of the forest can hiss very loudly in case of feeling any danger. Even their hiss can be heard up to 100 feet away. Almost all of the sub-species of Boa Constrictor are called with the same name and red-tailed Boa Constrictor is preferred to keep as pet. Boa constrictor species are now considered as endangered animal species as they are excessively hunted for their exotic skin.
