The length of a river is determined after calculating the length between its source and its mouth. The rivers are the main source of fresh water, food, irrigation and hydrological benefits. Our lovely planet has magnificent rivers which normally fall ultimately into the oceans, seas or other rivers. Rivers are home of many aquatic species and they provide us with a tremendous source of food as fish.

Lady amethyst pheasant is native to Myanmar and the southern China. Chrysolophus amherstiaeis the biological name of the Lady amethyst pheasant which belongs to the Phasianidae family. Lady amethyst pheasant has much similarity with its cousin, the Golden Pheasant and the adult male is 100-120 cm in length, its tail accounting for 80 cm of the total length.

The plumage of Lady amethyst pheasant is of white and yellow color while it has silver blackish head. The tail which is a longer body part of Lady amethyst pheasant is of grey color. The female is much less showy, with a duller mottled brown plumage all over along with darker head and cleaner under parts.

Lady amethyst pheasant is mostly considered a domesticated pheasant although it can flourish rapidly in the thick and dense forests. Lady amethyst pheasant is a ground bird but it can also fly very briskly. The diet of the Lady amethyst pheasant includes grains, leaves, seeds and small insects.

In the great Himalayan range of India, Nepal and Bhutan a small and short tailed pheasant is very common which is known as Blood Pheasant. The Blood Pheasant is the state bird of the Indian state of Sikkim. The natural habitat, where the Blood pheasants live, are the Northern mountain ranges of Nepal , Sikkim ( India ) , Myanmar , Tibet ,Bhutan and the south-central China.

The Blood pheasant of Himalayas is purely a snow-bird which occupies the coniferous scrub lands and they move in a convoys with the season variations. Normally, the Blood Pheasants are found at higher elevations during the summer. With snow increasing in fall and winter they move to lower elevations.The face and throat of the Blood pheasant are corrosive while the back of the neck is normally gray. The rest of the body is streak gray, white and buff. Both males and females have red feet and a distinct ring of bare skin around the eye but Females are more uniformly colored, being overall dull brown and often with some gray to the nape.
The Blood Pheasant of Himalayas is scientifically known as Ithaginis cruentus and the average size for male is of 42 cm and for female is of 38 cm. The Blood pheasants are although good runners but they are not expert fliers. In the month of May, the female lays normally 6-7 long oval eggs which are pinkish or yellowish white in color. The chicks of the Blood Pheasants are observed in the month of June and live in a covey till winter.
