Women of the Lovely Planet-3

They’ll dedicate you everything they have, if loved. Even, if the women belong to any walk of life or whatever position or status they’re enjoying, they’ll never ignore their main responsibilities. Women of all races, sects, religions or nations deserve true respect and prestige. The purpose of the Women of the Lovely Planet series is to pay a special tribute to the women of the world. We honor the roles of the mother, the sister, the aunt, the wife and the daughter as they toil the most for their families. The women of the lovely planet are the special gifts of God on earth and they are created to be loved as they love us for our all defects.

The traditional dress of Laos

Laos or Lao People’s Democratic Republic is a fantastic but landlocked country of Southeast Asia. The original population of Laos belongs to Austro-Asiatic group which is scattered throughout South East Asia even to India and Bangladesh. These people were able to depend upon the natural cultivation and landscapes and did not adopt the skills of agriculture.

The women of Laos in their traditional dress

Nowadays, the people of Laos are seen very rarely in their traditional dresses. The traditional dress of Laos is very much similar to the Hmong community. Hmong Community is dispersed in different parts of Laos, Vietnam, Thailand and Myanmar etc.

Some pretty Hmong girls of Laos

In the past, these traditional dresses were hand woven and generally made of hemp. Presently these dresses are made with artificial material on advanced stitching machines. There is tremendous variety in the designs and patterns in the Laos clothing. The colors of Laos clothing range from common colors like black and white to vibrant and bright colors like pink and green and blue.

Although in the recent years, the people of Laos are much affected with the western trends in dressings, however in the formal functions like the ceremonies of the national interest and festive occasions the people of Laos wear the traditional dress of Laos.

The Imperial Pheasant of Vietnam

The Imperial Pheasant of Vietnam is perhaps the rarest species in pheasants which is an endemic bird of Laos and Vietnam. The Imperial Pheasant is a medium-sized dark blue pheasant which might be up to 75 cm long. The other prominent features of the Imperial pheasant include its bare red facial skin, blue crest, crimson legs and glossy plumage. Female is brown with erectile short feather crest, blackish tail and primaries.

The Imperial Pheasant of Loas and Vietnam

The Imperial Pheasants are sometimes confused with another rare pheasant species which is found in the central forests of Vietnam and it is iknown as Vietnamese pheasant (Lophura hatinhensis). The Vietnamese pheasant was discovered in 1964 and  it is a species of gall pheasant. But the Imperial pheasants are larger than the Vietnamese pheasants and have longer tail, all dark blue crest and tail feathers. The Imperial Pheasant is in fact not considered as a true species because this is a hybrid species developed as a result of the cross breed between the the Vietnamese Pheasant and the subspecies anamnesis of the Silver Pheasant.

SAOLA: The most endangered mammal of Vietnam

One of the most endangered mammal inhabits in the lush tropic forests of Annamite range on the border between Viet Nam and Lao People’s Democratic Republic and known as Saola. The Asian unicorn Saola is a large mammal that has been discovered in recent times and it is so distinguished in its description that the biologists created a new genus Pseudoryx and named Saola as Pseudoryx nghetinhensis. To protect this amazing zoological discovery the Vietnamese government with the consent of the local people have approved a Saola Natural Reserve.

The adult Saola can gain approximately a weight up to 90 Kg and the head of Saola can of 150 cm in length. The shoulder height of this amazing mammal can reach 85 cm and its tail is almost 20 cm long. The skin of Saola is relatively soft and thin and its color  is dark brown having a black stripe along the back. Their unique horns can grow to half a meter and keep a backward curvy shape. The white stripes exist on the cheeks of Saola and the similar white colored stains are found on eyebrows , noses and chin. The legs of Saola are relatively darker in colour but there are white dots on its feet.

Saola’s favorite place is the mountain forests and during the rainy seasons, when all streams are overflowed with water , the shy Saola come near the villages but they don’t enter in the fields. Saola the most endangered mammal of Vietnam is so rare that  only a single female Saola was caught by the locals of Laos in August 2010 and she also died in the pregnant condition. According to the research the diet of Saola contains small leafy plants especially fig leaves, and stems along rivers. Saola, the most endangered mammal of Vietnam is threatened the most from hunting. There are fears that Saola the most endangered mammal of Vietnam may be extinct by now  particularly in Vietnam. The desire to eat its precious meat and to use the facial glands of the Saola for medicinal purposes are the main causes for its hunting. Furthermore  the timber extraction practices for small-scale agricultural use and logging of trees are enhancing the access of remaining Saolas to the hunters.
