Tecoma Stans is a native flowering shrub of America which is also known as Yellow Bells, Yellow Elder, Gold Star and Yellow Trumpetbush. Tecoma Stans or Yellow Bells belongs to Bignoniaceae family. Tecoma Stans is cultivated as an ornamental plant in America, mostly in the warmer zones of America because it is a drought tolerant specie. The plant of Tecoma Stans is an irregularly shaped and deciduous shrub which is normally 3-6 ft. tall and in some areas, some of its varieties can gain the height of 9 ft. There are several stems and slender, erect branches and its leaves are lance-shaped. Yellow Bells or Tecoma Stans is the national flower of Bahamas.

The flowers of Yellow Bells are very bright and flamboyant which carry huge attraction for the insects, bees and hummingbirds. The cultivation of Yellow Bells or Tecoma Stans is increasing day by day as it is a drought resistant and it has magnificent appearance.

Tecoma Stans produces a “bean type” capsule which is almost 8 inches long and that ripens to a chocolate brown color. Some people also name Tecoma Stans as Esperanza and now it has also been introduced outside the American continent. Overall Tecoma Stans or Yellow Bells, the national flower of Bahamas requires lesser attention and consumes very low quantity of water.
