Green Anaconda: The largest snake on Earth

Green Anaconda has remained a mysterious and dreadful character, about which lots of fictional literature has been written. Green Anaconda is also the favorite leitmotif of the horror film producers and has been presented as a stalwart monster in their movies. A number of times the size and bodies of the Green Anaconda has been exaggerated by the writers and the movie makers. In this article, we’ll narrate the true facts about this scandalous creature.

Green Anaconda, the largest snake on Earth is commonly known as Anaconda or Common Anaconda and it is scientifically called as Eunectes murinus. The Green Anaconda falls under the non poisonous category of boa species. Green Anaconda is no doubt the heaviest snake which is also one of the longest snake species on earth. Green Anaconda is normally a solitary reptile which is seen together only in the mating season. The female Green Anaconda is surprisingly larger than the male ones. The Green Anacondas are also considered excellent subjects on the relevant issues in the ecology of snakes and vertebrates in general.

The Green Anaconda can obtain the maximum length of 20-25 feet and the color pattern consists of olive green background overlaid with black blotches along the length of the body. The head of Green Anaconda is narrower than the body, usually with distinctive orange-yellow striping on either side. From time to time many rumors have remained in the air about seeing the Green Anaconda of 30-40 ft, however no authenticity occurs in this regard. The longest (and heaviest) scientifically recorded specimen was a female measuring 521 cm (17 ft 1 in) long and weighing 97.5 kilograms (215 lb).

The Green Anaconda which is also sometimes referred as the Water Boa, lives in the tropical zones of the Latin America and South America. The Green Anaconda are mostly found in the swamps and tropical rain forests of the great Amazon river. They are very agile swimmers like Boa Constrictor and Reticulated Pythons. They are cumbersome on land, but stealthy and sleek in the water. Their eyes and nasal openings are on top of their heads, allowing them to lie in wait for prey while remaining nearly completely submerged. Green anacondas are active primarily at night and spend most of the daytime hours sleeping.

In the mating season the female Green Anaconda mates with several males and she may produce 30-50 young ones at one time.  The initial growth rate is somewhat rapid but slows once the animal reaches sexual maturity, which typically occurs around 4 to 5 years of age. The sexuality in the Green Anaconda is also full of amazing features. In the rainy season, the females Green Anaconda lays down pheromone trails which are typically followed by a number of males who aggregate around the female in a “breeding ball,” which is actually a slow-motion wrestling match. This situation is continued for several days and ultimately a single male Green Anaconda emerges as a winner which performs actual sex with the female.

Green Anaconda, the largest snake on earth lives in the remote and dense forest areas. Their population has also threats of habitat destruction caused by deforestation. But overall they don’t have many predators; although they are being hunted in order to get their meat and skin.

Macaws : The most intelligent Parrots

The most intelligent and beautiful specie in parrot family is Macaw. If we say Macaws are the ruling class in parrot family , it would not be wrong. Macaws , the most intelligent parrots are the most prominent in the Psittacidae family ( The true parrots ) and they can be classified in six main groups Ara, Anodorhynchus, Cyanopsitta, Primolius, Orthopsittaca, and Diopsittaca. These graceful Macaws are found in Mexico , Central America and South America where they prefer to live in the tropical forest zones. The Red colored Macaw has a length of approximately 38 cm while the yellow colored Macaw can attain the length of 85 cm. Macaws are found in blue , red and green colors. The Hyacinth Macaw is the largest Macaw and the heaviest macaw is the Buffon Macaw.

The most distinguish quality the Macaws possess is they can learn to talk very easily. Although Macaws are not the best talkers but they can amuse with their funny way of adopting the voices and making amazing noises.   The diet of Macaws include a variety of foods including fruits, palm fruits, nuts, seeds, leaves, flowers, and stems. In the Amazon  some Macaws are also in a habit to lick the clay in order to digest the food and to eliminate the toxic matters in their stomach. Specially in breeding season the Macaws lick the clay more. Although outside Amazon the Macaws are not observed in such habit. The Macaws make their grip stronger with their sharp paws and their long and colorful tail increase the grace of Macaws.

The blue and golden Macaws are better speakers in human way and their average age is almost 60 to 80 years. The Greenwing Macaws can also live for the same periods and their average length is 35 cm. The Hahn’s Macaws are considered as the smaller Macaws and they can gain the average length of 12 to 14 cm. With a strong black beak and a red colored ring around their neck they can live for 20 to 25 years. Like many other endangered species Macaws , the most intelligent parrots are also threatened with illegal logging of trees and black market trade to sell them as domestic animals.
