Darvaza, The Burning Gate or Door to Hell, whatever you may want to call it, was formed in 1971 when the geologists explored of a huge underground carven while drilling for gas. But the crater was filled with dangerous gas and the equipment remained inside and it was not possible for them to retrieve their equipment. After that it was impossible for them to prevent the gas escaping and they burned it hoping it to be finished soon. But this was not a good judgment and this crater is continuously burning till today.
This amazing wonder of nature in Turkmenistan is a massive source of burning (with diameter of 70 meters/230 feet) and nobody can enter into this. But it is a tremendous experience to visit Darvaza and see this wonder with your own eyes. This burning gas crater is located in the central area of Turkmenistan, about 260 KM north of Turkmenistan’s capital city Ashgabat.
